Introduction

We are on Turrbal and Jagera Country (Yuggera language), and we acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of lands, seas and waters throughout Australia, and pay respect to Elders past, present and future. We recognise that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have continued connection to culture, country, language and community, and that this has been a place of learning and teaching for thousands of years.

Where are you from and what are you working on?

  • Brief introductions, scope of current projects in the group.

    Why EMCA for EC research?

  • Aim of discussion: To resolve to ethical issues (e.g. filming in environments where not all children have provided consent) and issues of praxis: camera, audio, data management and analysis, filters for anonymity, sketching stills for publication.

  • Aim: To identify how embodied actions that uphold infant children’s rights to choose, at their pace, when/if they want to receive help.

  •  Aim: To identify how responsive engagement is achieved during shared bookreading in four-year-old kindergarten programs.

  • Short exercise of explaining the significance of a 60 second interaction. Today’s achievement of making a case for EMCA in ECEC.
